EVIT student holding dog in EVIT Veterinary Assistant

Prepare for a career in the veterinary field where you can experience the reward of saving and caring for animals. In the EVIT Veterinary Assistant program you will have the opportunity to integrate your love for animals with the knowledge and hands on experiences needed to secure an entry level position within a veterinary facility.

Concepts taught include animal behavior and restraint, front office procedures, communication and client relations, pharmacy and pharmacology, examination room procedures, small and large animal nursing care, surgical preparation and assisting, laboratory procedures and radiographic imaging.

The Veterinary Assistant program is designed to be completed in two years. During the first two semesters students focus on animal anatomy and physiology, hands on skills and practical applications. During the third semester students improve their skills and progress to advanced assisting concepts. The fourth semester is centered around student externships. Veterinary assistant students are placed at local animal shelters, veterinary facilities and equine centers where they are able to apply the knowledge and skill acquired in an authentic, real-world setting.

Note: This program is only offered at the EVIT East Campus. Students may be randomly drug tested.
