We are located in building 11 on the main campus,
at Longmore and Main st. in the southwest corner of the campus.
I started my career in the Fire Service as a volunteer in 1979 with the Apache Junction Fire District, now know as Superstition Fire and Medical. I became an EMT in 1980 and certified as an IEMT in 1981. I worked on an ambulance in the East Valley for a while, before taking a position in Apache Junction with a private water distribution company. In 1985 I was hired Full time with Apache Junction Fire District as a Fire Fighter/IEMT/Apparatus Driver. In 1987, I promoted to Captain, overseeing two stations. In 1991, I sustained an injury that moved to the Fire Prevention temporarily that blossomed into a new position in our department, Fire Marshall. During my time as the Fire Marshall, I was in charge of Arson Investigation, Public Education, Fire Prevention, the Inspection Program, and our 911 Dispatch Center. I retired in 1994 due to medical restrictions, and responded to an advertisement to start a new program for the East Valley Institute of Technology in Fire Science.
This is my 22nd year teaching for EVIT, allowing me to be a part in over 2000 graduates lives! Currently about 25% (over 500) of those graduates are working across the US in fire departments. We have graduates in almost every fire department in
the Phoenix metro area. About 20% of our students that become EMS certified move into the medical profession. Another 10% are working as Wildland Fire Fighters, and 10% are serving in the Military! This year is going to be my last working with these young men and women, as I am retiring in May of 2017.
I am celebrating my 42nd year of marriage this year to my lovely wife Robin, I have two daughters, and 4 grandchildren. My wife is retired from the AJUSD as a registrar. Both of my daughters are teachers.
My education spans 20+ years of attending college at Mesa CC, Rio Salado CC, Central AZ College, Paradise Valley CC, ASU, and NAU. I have participated in numerous State Fire school classes, and attended the National Fire Academy twice for specialized training. I have AAS degrees in Fire Science, Business Supervision and Management, and a Bachelors degree in Vocational Technical Education. I currently have over 230 college credit hours behind me. Remember, in the fire service you never stop learning!
