Sally E. Downey, Ed.D.
 

Dr. Sally DowneyDr. Sally Downey brings a wealth of experience to East Valley Institute of Technology located in Mesa, Arizona. 

She has more than 40 years of education experience, with 25 of those in the Career and Technical field.  Her experience covers teaching and counseling, as well as administration.  

Most of her experience was gained in Oklahoma’s widely-acclaimed, premier career and technical education delivery system.

Since moving to Arizona in 2000, Dr. Downey has acted as the visionary for East Valley Institute of Technology, a Joint Technological Education District (JTED).  She provides leadership and direction for the total operation of the school that includes an $11 million operational budget.  

Approximately 3,000 students attend the EVIT campus with another 20,000 attending EVIT satellites.  Her main goal is to raise the bar for career and technical education programs as well as promoting and developing new programs.  

Dr. Downey is a dynamic and charismatic leader and a driving force in career and technical education today.

She holds a Masters degree and a Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma and her accomplishments include:  

  • Arch Alexander Award for Outstanding Career and Technical School Superintendent in Oklahoma
  • Outstanding Adult Educator (OCLLA)
  • Educator of the Year, Region IV (AVA)
  • Outstanding Educator, New & Related Services Division (OVA)
  • Superintendent of the Year for the State of Arizona
  • Mesa Woman of the Year
  • Excellence in Education Worldwide Award from the North Central Association
  • Kerry Dunne Sustaining Leadership Award, East Valley Partnership
