Do you have an old, outdated or broken computer, monitor, cell phone or modem that is collecting dust? The East Valley Institute of Technology will accept unwanted electronics (except televisions) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1601 W. Main Street in Mesa.
The electronics collected will benefit Arizona StRUT, a non-profit organization, through which students are given the opportunity to work on computers and gain valuable hands-on experience. The completed systems are then donated to non-profit organizations such as local schools and charities.
“EVIT computer repair students have refurbished more than 500 computers for the Nogales School District through this program” said instructor Raymond Rogers. “It also helps the environment by keeping electronics out of our landfills.”
The electronics recycling event is being held in conjunction with EVIT Expo 2012. Prospective students, parents, families and community members are invited to tour campus and learn more about career and technical education. A variety of interactive activities are scheduled including tethered hot air balloon rides, live music, food, a parade and helicopter rides.
