Health care facility to bring jobs, training opportunities for EVIT students
Dignitaries gather on Jan. 31 to break ground on new facility
February 1, 2012
Thanks to a new partnership with Adelante Healthcare, health and nursing students at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) will soon have the opportunity to complete required clinical hours and gain on-the-job training at a full-service, state-of-the-art health center open to the public located on the EVIT campus at 1601 W. Main Street, Mesa.
“What set EVIT apart from other career and technical training programs are its public and private partnerships that help ensure students are prepared to successfully transition into the workforce or higher education upon graduation” said Dr. Sally Downey, EVIT Superintendent.
On Jan. 31, dignitaries from Adelante Healthcare, EVIT, City of Mesa, Mesa Chamber of Commerce, A.T. Still University and others gathered to "officially" break ground on the new 45,000-square-foot health clinic that is scheduled to open in November 2012.
The Adelante Healthcare facility will provide hands-on, real-life experience for students along with the opportunity to complete clinical hours required for certification in programs such as medical assisting and practical nursing. Health and nursing programs account for roughly one-third, or approximately 1,000 students, on the EVIT campus each year.
"Connecting our health and nursing students with a working healthcare center on campus is a fantastic way to provide students with valuable hands-on, real-life training and the opportunity to complete clinical hours required for certification” said Ronda Doolan, EVIT Health Director.
Adelante Healthcare currently operates seven health centers throughout Maricopa County including a new comprehensive full service health center in Surprise. Adelante Healthcare is committed to improving both the quality of care for their patients and the work environment for their staff; which is why they have joined up with the Pebble Project for the new Mesa Comprehensive location on the EVIT campus.
The Pebble Project launched in 2000 and is a research initiative of The Center for Health Design and selected healthcare providers. The purpose of the work is to create change in the healthcare industry by providing researched and documented examples of healthcare facilities whose design has made a difference in improving patient and staff outcomes, as well as operating efficiency.
Adelante Healthcare will be the first Community Health Center to build and operate a health facility in Maricopa County that partners with the Pebble Project through the Center of Health Design.
High school students can choose from more than 35 different occupation-specific programs that will help prepare them for college and/or career. Enrollment is underway for the 12/13 school year.
