What is EVIT?
EVIT is a public, joint technical education district (JTED) that serves students who reside in East Valley school districts. Students from Apache Junction, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Tempe, Higley and J.O. Combs spend a half-day at EVIT in a career preparation program and the other half-day at their home high school. All 10th, 11th and 12th grade students can attend tuition-free. Bus transportation is provided to and from EVIT by the student’s home school district for most programs. High school students also have the option of enrolling in career and technical education (CTE) classes at their home school. These classes are offered by the school districts and funded by EVIT.
When should students start thinking about EVIT?
It is recommended that students that are interested in attending EVIT should start thinking about registering for EVIT when they are in the 8th grade. Students are encouraged to include EVIT on their Education Career and Action Plan (ECAP).
When do students register?
Registration for classes is on-going. Each high school and middle school in the ten districts has a designated counselor with materials and information regarding EVIT registration. Students may register at their high school or at the EVIT campus. High school student schedules must reflect EVIT at the correct designated time. For more information, please visit our Admissions page or call 480-461-4000.
What is needed to register?
Students will need a copy of their transcript, the results of a recognized standardized test such as the Stanford 9 or AIMS (AIMS results must be turned in if taken), and attendance records.
When does school start?
Students are encouraged to pre-register for EVIT courses during the regular spring registration process at their home school. Students pre-registering will receive follow-up information during the summer. For late registration or enrollment for the second semester starting in January, please call 480-461-4000 to speak with a counselor.
How many credits can be earned?
A three-quarter (3/4) credit is earned for every nine weeks completed with a passing grade and 90% attendance. Students who miss more than nine (9) days (excused or unexcused) during a semester will receive a grade of "Audit" for the semester. Community college articulation and/or dual enrollment credit is in place for high school students in designated courses. All EVIT high school students graduate from their home high school.
Are there other types of credits available?
Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Careers (MC10) was approved by the Arizona Board of Regents as a lab science. It will also be recognized and accepted at all Arizona Universities as part of the entrance requirements. Credit options include one (1) lab science credit and two (2) electives or all three (3) elective credits.
What time are classes?
Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:05 to 10:35 a.m. or 12:05 to 2:35 p.m. The class times for some programs, such as Cosmetology, may be extended to meet state certification requirements.
Are there fees?
EVIT is tuition-free for high school students. Class fees vary by program and are based on the cost of required tools, supplies/materials, and career and technical student organization (CTSO) membership.
Is transportation available?
Free busing is provided by the home school districts for the morning and afternoon sessions. Students must provide their own transportation for all other sessions. Transportation office phone numbers
