Non-Traditional Students

  What is a non-traditional student?

The state of Arizona defines non-traditional as occupational training or fields of work for which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25% of the individuals employed in the work force.

EVIT's definition of a non-traditional (or "non-trad") is a student who has accepted the challenge, with courage and commitment, to enroll in a program that is not considered traditional for his/her gender.

Why are non-traditional students valued and important?

  1. Employers will give first consideration to non-trad applicants in regards to interviewing and employment opportunities. Employers need and want EVIT non-trad program completers!
  2. Non-traditional students create employment opportunities for future generations by breaking stereotypes and closing the gender gap in the workforce.
  3. Just one non-trad alone can change the lives of many students who are afraid to follow the career of their dreams.

Male students are considered non-traditional and needed for the following EVIT programs:

  • Cosmetology
