After Joey Liberatore, 18, graduates from Chandler’s Perry High school and completes EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program in May, he will head for Johnson City, Tenn., where he has already accepted a job as Director of Media Relations for the Johnson City Cardinals’ 2016 season. The Johnson City Cardinals baseball team is an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joey Liberatore, EVIT Radio Audio Production studentIn a news release issued by the Cardinals, general manager Tyler Parsons said: “We’re excited to add Joey to our staff for the 2016 season. He comes highly regarded, and he has a wealth of experience for someone his age.”

It’s experience made possible through career and technical education offered by the East Valley Institute of Technology, where Joey serves as program director for the radio program’s station, 88.7FM The Pulse.

All his life, Joey had played baseball, but then an injury sidelined him from the game. After taking a summer class in EVIT’s radio program, Joey discovered that he could continue his passion for baseball – through broadcasting.

Through AZ Preps 365, operated by the Arizona Interscholastic Association, Joey got the opportunity to cover high school sports. Not long after, he started engineering the broadcasts for the Chicago Cubs spring training games. Then last summer, he spent a month in Tennessee where he hosted the pre-game show for the Tennessee Smokies Minor League Baseball team.

“EVIT helped to give me these jobs and experience,” Joey said. “EVIT just set me up to be far ahead of other students.”

After working for the Johnson City Cardinals, Joey will major in broadcasting at the University of Alabama.
