East Valley families can explore all that the East Valley Institute of Technology has to offer by attending the annual EVIT Gives Back Expo, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Dr. A. Keith Crandell (Main) Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa.

EVIT provides 40 advanced career and technical education programs tuition-free to high school students who live in 10 East Valley districts – Mesa, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Apache Junction, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek and J.O. Combs. Tuition-based programs for adults are also offered with financial aid available to those who qualify.

During the Expo, two grand openings will be celebrated with ribbon-cutting ceremonies by the Mesa Chamber of Commerce: the new Academy of Cosmetic Arts for EVIT’s Cosmetology and Aesthetics programs and the new George Brazil School of Plumbing. In addition, Ollie the Trolley will give campus tours, including a drive through EVIT’s Automotive and Collision Repair bays and a stop at the EVIT Fire Science Academy, where guests can test their physical fitness skills and observe firefighting activities.

The Expo will also feature entertainment sponsored by 88.7FM The Pulse on the Thorobred Chevrolet Stage, including performances by School of Rock and the Jacob Morris Band. There will also be a pet adoption event hosted by the EVIT Veterinary Assistant program and the Arizona Animal Welfare League, an open house at The Great Globe, flying drones and flight simulators from EVIT Aviation, free chair massages by the Massage Therapy program and blood pressure screenings by the Medical Assistant program, demonstrations by other EVIT programs, and food available for purchase from the Culinary Arts program and Bistro 13.

Admission is free to the EVIT Gives Back Expo. Some programs will charge nominal fees for activities, with proceeds being donated to the Mesa United Way.
