Six students with perfect attendance at the East Valley Institute of Technology will get a chance to win a car on Monday.

EVIT’s annual car giveaway is made possible by Chandler’s Thorobred Chevrolet, which donates a car every year to motivate students to achieve perfect attendance.

“Just like the employers they will work for one day, we want our students to make attendance a priority,” said EVIT Superintendent Sally Downey. “You can’t learn if you’re not at school, and you can’t do your job if you’re not at work.”

This year’s car donated by Thorobred is a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. At assemblies on Friday, 200 EVIT students with perfect attendance are drawing to see who the six students will be that get a shot at winning the car on Monday.

The actual car giveaway is 12:15 p.m., Monday, May 18 at the Dr. A. Keith Crandell (Main) Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. Each of the six students will be given a key and a turn at trying the key in the ignition. The student with the key that starts the car, wins the car.

Downey said the perfect attendance car is an example of how Valley business and industry, and in particular, Thorobred Chevrolet, support EVIT.

“We are grateful for everything that Thorobred does for our school,” she said. “Thorobred and our other business partners are an invaluable resource in shaping EVIT into Arizona’s premier career and technical education school.”

EVIT provides occupational training in 40 different career programs to high school students and adults who live in 10 East Valley school districts – Mesa, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Apache Junction, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek and J.O. Combs.

EVIT students have a 95 percent high school graduation rate, and two out of three go on to college. EVIT was recently named a 2015 A+ School of Excellence™ by the Arizona Educational Foundation.
